THE JLSJ 2020-2024 STRATEGIC PLAN

The Junior League of San Jose is an organization of women whose Mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.

The Junior League welcomes all women who value our Mission. We aim to foster a diverse, inclusive, equitable, culturally competent, and supportive environment where members have a sense of belonging and model behavior that enriches our community. JLSJ is committed to ongoing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts and investment internally as a League and throughout our community.

MEMBERSHIP GOAL:

Create an inclusive, equitable, and engaging culture for a diverse group of women through the development of an effective, member-centric model where all feel welcomed, valued, respected, and heard, that trains and develops members and fosters lifelong connections among members to the League by:

  • Reducing the year-over-year Active membership decline by 50%
  • Retaining 50% of new members through their 5th Active year
  • Retaining 100% of Sustainers
  • Achieving 100% self-submissions for leadership roles
  • Incorporating Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) goals annually at the committee level across all programs and councils, including Membership, Community Impact, Leadership Development, and Fund Development
  • Evaluating the League’s governance/management operating model for efficiency and effectiveness considering legal and regulatory requirements and member capacity to foster an environment where members feel supported enough to maintain an Active league role.

FUND DEVELOPMENT GOAL:

Strengthen the financial stability and viability of JLSJ through a diversified fund development model, supporting sustainable program impact that aligns with our evolving capacity, furthers our Mission, and trains our members to be civic leaders by:

  • Implementing a minimum of two additional fund development streams to generate 20% of JLSJ’s programming budget
  • Raising 50% of JLSJ’s programming budget through the primary fundraiser
  • Increasing year-over-year overall donor giving by 5%
  • Procuring five multi-year giving agreements
  • Procuring five new corporate donors
  • Achieving 100% Active League member participation in fundraising

COMMUNITY GOAL:

Make a measurable impact in the lives of transitional-age foster youth while providing meaningful and accessible volunteer opportunities to our members, showcasing our impact on our community, and articulating a clear value proposition to our donors through:

  • Selecting primary community partners and establishing multi-year agreements
  • Redefining the grant opportunities to establish goals of smaller, accelerator-focused grants as well as longer-term initiatives
  • Evaluating the Advantages and Disadvantages of a Community Advisory Board
  • Evaluating our chosen focus area to ensure membership interest and engagement, as well as the effective impact on an area of need in the community we serve, in line with our PP&G requirement to review every five years

ENDPOINT 2024:

By the end of the 2023-2024 League year, JLSJ will have furthered our Mission by making a measurable and visible impact towards:

  • Creating better outcomes for transitional-age foster youth in Santa Clara County by supporting initiatives aimed at ensuring 50% of foster youth are on track toward earning $50k by age 26
  • Creating a more equitable membership environment
  • Improving the effectiveness of our membership model
  • Enhancing the diversification of our fund development model
